Is reflexology right for me?

Reflexology is a therapy which can be received by anyone at any age, from newborn babies to those receiving end of life care, and everyone in between. However, there may occasionally be times when it is not suitable to provide a treatment.  If you have any questions please give me a call to discuss before booking a treatment.  Please note: reflexology should not be used as an alternative to seeking medical advice.

Will reflexology help me?

With ever increasing levels of daily stress, it is important for people to take more responsibility for their own health.  Reflexology can be a way of mitigating everyday stresses and strains.  It is a very individual treatment tailored to you as a whole person, taking into account both physical and non-physical factors that may affect your wellbeing.  Think of reflexology as an MOT for the body.  Regular treatments can help to keep the body balanced.  The best way to find out is to try it!

What happens during a treatment?

Your first visit will involve an initial consultation followed by a full treatment, lasting up to 1 hour 30 minutes in total. During the consultation, I will take a detailed medical history and we will have the opportunity to discuss all areas of your health, lifestyle and well-being and you will be asked to sign a consent form. This information will be kept confidential. This will help me to understand what you are trying to achieve from reflexology and enable me to put together a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

After you have removed your shoes and socks, I’ll give your feet a quick refresh with organic wipes and apply a soft wax or lotion to your feet. I’ll work over both feet and lower legs with gentle pressure to start with.

As you lie back, relax and enjoy the treatment, you are free to either chat or simply close your eyes and drift off to sleep. Treatments take place in either a reclining chair or on an adjustable massage couch.

After the treatment, we’ll discuss your experience, review any imbalances and, if appropriate I will offer aftercare advice I feel may benefit you and suggest a treatment plan.

Is reflexology painful?

Reflexology is a very gentle and relaxing therapy, however, some discomfort or sensitivity may be felt.  This is usually an indication of an imbalance or congestion in a corresponding part of the body.  On the whole, the sensation is soothing and deeply relaxing.

How will I feel after a treatment?

Immediately after a treatment, most people feel relaxed but energised.  Occasionally you may experience lethargy or feel emotional, these are normal reactions and show the treatment is taking effect.  It is useful to give me feedback as this can show your body’s response to treatment. This can then help me to tailor a treatment plan to your needs.
